WHAT IS MEDIATION?
Mediation is a voluntary, confidential process in which parties of all ages have an opportunity to listen deeply to one another and address the underlying needs of everyone involved in a conflict. During a mediation, impartial facilitators provide a forum for people to explore concerns, generate options, and to work together toward a mutually satisfying resolution. Mediation is a highly effective and inexpensive alternative to litigation and can promote cooperation and collaboration instead of competition and rivalry. Parties leave our process invested in the settlement, which in turn leads to deeper commitment, follow-through and accountability.
WHAT IS FACILITATION?
Group or event facilitation can take many forms. At COMMON TALKS we use a race-equity and intersectional lens to help participants co-create a safe and respectful environment for everyone at the table. Large group facilitation is available to groups needing assistance with meeting management, effective group process and decision making, or for groups that want to address more complex issues with care and outside support. Our cross-race facilitation team enjoys working with both youth and adults in a variety of settings and applications.
COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS and FACILITATION TRAINING
In addition to hosting a variety of Community Conversations as part of our facilitation services, COMMON TALKS also offers volunteer training for people interested in facilitating community conversations, book groups, film discussions, etc., using a race-equity and intersectional lens. We also offer a more extensive Facilitating Effective Meetings 16-hour workshop for organizations seeking to improve their internal processes. Feel free to contact us for more information about these, or our other training and consulting services.
